About Grand Solutions

Grand Solutions targets large-scale research & innovation projects with substantial societal and economic impact and encourage collaboration between universities, research institutions and businesses. Innovation Fund Denmark (IFD) invests in ambitious projects which potentially create valuable and new knowledge, growth and employment in Denmark.

Grants range from DKK 5- 40 Million and the project duration is typically 1-5 years. The funding supports comprehensive research and development efforts that require significant resources and long-term investment.

1. Healthcare Innovations: Projects aimed at developing new medical treatments, diagnostic tools, or healthcare delivery models. For example, research into personalized medicine or advanced medical devices.

2. Sustainable Energy Solutions: Initiatives focused on renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, and reducing carbon emissions. This could include projects on wind energy, solar power, or smart grid technologies.

3. Technological Advancements: Projects that push the boundaries of current technology, such as advancements in artificial intelligence, robotics, or nanotechnology.

4. Environmental and Agricultural Innovations: Research addressing environmental sustainability, including projects on sustainable agriculture, water management, and biodiversity conservation.

The Grant Solutions programme is divided into three options: 

Open call

• IFD invest in projects with great potential for value creation within research and innovation regardless professional disciplines and themes as well as the different stages of the value chain.
• IFD favours projects with focus on increased private or public productivity within e.g. administrative, service and financial disciplines and is positive toward new, disruptive or unconventional business models that will ensure the value creation of the project.
• The assessment criteria are: Excellence, value creation, efficiency of project execution and implementation of results.

Research and Innovation Solutions Aiding the Green Transition

• IFD co-finances green projects that are able to document state-of the-art knowledge and a convincing set-up to create large value for society and high impact on the green transition. IFD invests in projects at all stages of the research and innovation value chain. 
• The research must strengthen the efforts across the entire value chain from research to development.
• Focus is on long-term prioritisation and coherent initiatives to solve the climatic, nature environmental challenges.

The Construction and Building Sector's Transition to Circular Resource Economy

• The aim is to promote the green transition in Denmark.
•  Projects shall contribute with ambitious answers on how to significantly reduce resource consumption and greenhouse gas emissions within the frames of a circular resource economy.
