Get up to €4 million in EIC Pathfinder Grant
The EIC Pathfinder programme goes beyond what is already known. Visionary thinking and research can lead towards powerful and new breakthrough technologies. Projects are typically led by visionary scientists and entrepreneurial researchers from universities, research organisations, start-ups, high-tech SMEs or industrial stakeholders interested in technological research and innovation. Research teams can apply for up to €4 million in grants (100% eligible costs).
At Nordic Innovators, we are working with a wide range of clients, helping them scope and develop their project ideas. Through close collaboration, we define their innovation journey and match each project with the most suitable funding programme. We also support them in finding the right consortium partners.
About EIC Pathfinder
The overall objective of the EIC Pathfinder for advanced research is to develop the scientific basis to underpin breakthrough technologies. It provides support for the earliest stages of scientific, technological or deep-tech research and development.
EIC Pathfinder supports early-stage development of future technologies like activities starting at low Technology Readiness Levels (TRL 1-2) and reaching TRL 3-4, up to an experimental proof of concept or validation in a lab. EIC Pathfinder projects can also receive additional funding (Booster grants of up to EUR 50,000) for testing the innovation potential of their research outputs.
EIC Pathfinder projects aim to build on new, cutting-edge directions in science and technology to disrupt a field / market or create new opportunities by realising innovative technological solutions through EIC Pathfinder Open and EIC Pathfinder Challenges. See more information below.
Deadlines
The deadline for EIC Pathfinder Open Call (two stages) falls each February for Stage 1 and, if invited, each September for Stage 2.
The deadline for EIC Pathfinder Challenges Call falls each September / October.
More Information & Success With EIC Pathfinder
EIC Pathfinder Open
Supports early stage development (TRL 1 to 4), and it is for proposals in any field of science, technology or application without predefined thematic priorities. The budget for 2026 is EUR 166 million.
You can apply if:
• You have a bold vision for a future technology that could change lives
• You can achieve the scientific breakthrough to make it possible
• You are ready to work with an interdisciplinary team to prove the concept and explore its impact.
Projects require consortia of at least 3 legal entities like research organisations, universities, SMEs and industry from 3 different eligible countries.
EIC Pathfinder Challenges
Supports individual and collaborative R&D prohects from Member States and Associated Countries funding high-risk, high-reward research and breakthrough technologies with the potential to disrupt or create new markets.
4 thematic calls:
1. Biotech for Climate Resilient Crops and Plant Based Biomanufacturing
2. Generative-AI based Agents to Revolutionize Medical Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancer
3. Towards autonomous robot collectives delivering collaborative tasks in dynamic unstructured construction environments
4. Waste-to-value devices – circular production of renewable fuels, chemicals and materials.
Secures €3.8M EIC Pathfinder grant
Our Swedish client, Amniotics AB, acquired by the Magle Group in 2024, secured a €3.8M EIC Pathfinder grant for the HyperTargIPS-NK project. They lead a 36-month research project in collaboration with Lund University, Medizinische Hochschule Hannover and the University of Copenhagen.
