How is an Innobooster application evaluated?
Innobooster is one of Denmark’s most popular funding programmes for companies and entrepreneurs who want to develop new products, services, or technologies. But how do you make sure your project is approved for funding?
There are fixed application windows throughout the year, and all projects in each window are assessed against one another. All applications are evaluated in two steps:
1. ADMINISTRATIVE CHECK
The company must meet the formal requirements: CVR registration (Danish business ID), SME definition, and minimum financial requirements. The company must either:
* A recorded a gross profit of at least DKK 250,000 in at least one of the last three published annual financial statements.
* Received a total investment of venture capital or funding for development projects of at least DKK 100,000 within the last three years.
* The project must fall within Innobooster’s scope (e.g., development funding with a clear level of innovation — not ordinary operations, marketing, or investor search).
* The application must be submitted using the official templates. It is not permitted to modify the templates or submit extra documents, links, or appendices.
* Illustrations may only serve as a visual supplement, e.g., of the product, technology, user interface, process, or market. Illustrations must not be text-heavy or data-heavy.
If the application does not meet the formal requirements, it will be administratively rejected.
2. EXPERT ASSESSMENT
* The Innobooster application is reviewed by at least two experts: One with knowledge of the specific technical field and one with knowledge of the Innobooster programme.
* Each application is scored on a 6-point scale against three criteria: Quality of the idea, Impact, and Quality of implementation. To receive funding, the average score must be at least 3.5, and no criterion may be scored below 3. Read more here.
* Even if the Innobooster application meets the requirements, funding is not guaranteed. Only the strongest projects in a given window receive an Innobooster grant.
* Small Innobooster (DKK 200,000 – 1M): As a rule, the decision is based on the evaluators’ assessment. If they cannot agree, if the company has previously received significant funding, or if the total support exceeds DKK 2M within three years, the application is sent to a panel where the applicant pitches the project. * Large Innobooster (DKK 1M – 5M): All applicants must present their project to a panel and answer questions. Read more here
