Renting and sharing is the future for many creators!
Wedio was founded in 2018 based on the idea of becoming the Airbnb of professional film and photo gear. The concept is simple – only use and pay for what you need!
Within the first 6 months, Wedio had already gathered equipment worth more than DKK 45 mio and generated more than 550 transactions. Therefore, the Danish start-up is not only the first but also the fastest-growing community where filmmakers and photographers share gear and equipment.
Wedio believes that the best solutions come from listening to competent people who look at their business from the outside. Consequently, Wedio has several advisors and investors on board who among other have worked for Airbnb and Gaest. You can see the impressive team here who pass on their extensive experience etc.
Demand for Next Step Came Fast
As a result of the early success, Wedio realised that they needed a better platform that could handle the demand of registering the gear more easily, both for lenders and renters, as well as finding a simple and faster system to replace the bulky manual work.
In 2019, Wedio reached out to Nordic Innovators to get counselling on applying for an InnoBooster grant. A well prepared and written application resulted in a successful grant in early 2020. Wedio can now concentrate on developing new backend functionalities to their platform. The aim is utilising advanced modules and processes to automate the action of both lending and renting equipment. Moreover, Wedio will be the first to provide a profitable and scalable marketplace for video/photo gear, ultimately improving lenders and renters' respective businesses.
We look forward to watching Wedio grow from the sidelines.
It has been a pleasure working with Nordic Innovators. Thanks to the great team for giving us constructive feedback and criticism which in the end led to a successful Innobooster grant. We are happy that we now can take the next steps to make Wedio an even better community.
