The Garments of the Future

PYRATES smart fabrics was established as an answer to the challenges and ideals for sustainability and durability. The aim is to innovate the textile industry while using functionality – a project that has been granted by the former EU programme, SME Instrument phase 1.

PYRATES smart fabrics is run by Y-generation women and develops and supplies its eco-responsible and quality driven PYRATEX® fabrics that are made with innovative natural and health-benefiting properties fibres. The Company is not only known for great quality and sustainability, but also for interesting designs.

We managed to get a quick chat with Regina Polanco, entrepreneur and Founder & CEO of PYRATES smart fabrics about creating her startup.

What differentiate PYRATES smart fabrics from other textile brands?

“As my aim is help innovate the textile industry while using functionality, I knew that it had to be from a natural resource and I knew that all innovation had to be made in a responsible way since one of the most polluting and contaminating industries is the textile industry.”

How will you describe your management style?

“I do not allow drama. I try to build a solid and fun culture motivating my staff to come to work every day. When hiring, I make sure to choose employees with similar values. However, I have a diverse team which gives different perspectives on ideas and gives us a great chance to see many challenges from different angles. Lastly, I treasure an honest, thriving team that is happy and healthy.”

Your best advice to other start-ups?

Startup-life can be tough and filled with insecurities and uncertainties. Nevertheless, do not take “No” for an answer. “No” is a chance to learn and “No” does NOT mean never. Be stubborn, trust yourself and take the leap.

What are your future goals?

“Taking PYRATES to the next level, being part of the change in the fashion industry, run hundreds of collaborations and PYRATES being considered as one of the pioneers of the textile revolution.” And not least keeping my great life”.
