An Innovative Journey towards Revolutionising the Meat Alternatives for a Greener Future
Millow - winner of a prestigious EIC Accelerator grant - is a Swedish startup on a mission to promote a healthier and greener lifestyle for our well-being and not least our planet. Millow represents the culmination of 25 years of groundbreaking research on mycelium micro-organisms by one of the world’s most respected scientists and authorities on mycelium Mohammad Taherzadeh.
The awareness grows about the environmental benefits of reducing meat consumption and the advantages of incorporating more plant-based foods into our diets, however, the current alternatives on the market fall short. Traditional meat substitutes are heavily processed, full of binders and additives.
The Swedish science team behind Millow has long championed values of health, nutrition, sustainability, and functional foods. Through their profound insights and innovations in mycelium have given rise to a revolutionary new category of meat substitutes, set to transform the industry and outperform all current alternatives.
Millow is working hard on introducing a groundbreaking, unique patented dry fermentation technology for cost-effective and nutrient-rich production of hybrid mycelium-plant meat analogues with superior taste and texture.
Got Assistance from Nordic Innovators to Secure Funding
In pursuit of a solution, Millow reach out to Nordic Innovators for assistance to develop a successful application to the very competitive and highly popular EIC Accelerator funding programme to further advance their MEATLOW project.
Millow’s aim is to optimise and automate their groundbreaking technology, MUTE: Mycelium Utilized Texture Engineering, elevating it to TRL8 status and making their revolutionary plant-fungi products available in the European meat substitute market by 2026.
In spring 2024, Millow got the great news that they received a grant from the EIC Accelerator programme, propelling their mission forward.
Securing funding for our MEATLOW project was crucial for us in advancing to the next TRL level. Therefore, we are very happy with our collaboration with Nordic Innovators as their support and guidance were instrumental in the success of our proposal. Dr. Staffan Hillberg, Chairman of Millow
