Celare Advances Quantum-Secure Communications with EIC Transition Support
Our client Celare Quantum Communications ApS, a Danish deep-tech spin-out from the Technical University of Denmark, has secured funding under the EIC Transition programme for its FALQON project. The project will accelerate the development of next-generation quantum key distribution technology, contributing to Europe’s strategic ambitions in secure digital infrastructure.
Bridging the Gap Between Quantum Research and Real-World Deployment
Quantum communication is widely recognised as a cornerstone of future cybersecurity. However, a key barrier remains: translating highly advanced laboratory systems into scalable, reliable solutions that can operate within existing telecommunications networks.
Celare addresses this challenge through its innovative continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) technology. By leveraging standard optical fibre infrastructure and advanced photonic integration, the company is developing a solution that combines strong security guarantees with practical deployment potential. This positions Celare at the forefront of efforts to enable quantum-secure communication across critical sectors, including telecommunications, finance, and public infrastructure.
FALQON – Enabling the Next Step in Technology Maturation
The FALQON project builds on prior EU-funded research and focuses on advancing the technology from early-stage validation towards demonstration in relevant environments. A central objective is the development of photonic integrated circuit-based transmitter and receiver modules, enabling miniaturisation, improved stability, and scalable manufacturing.
By integrating key system components into compact microchips, the project aims to move beyond bulky laboratory setups and pave the way for more efficient and widely deployable quantum communication systems. This step is essential for unlocking broader adoption and supporting the transition towards quantum-safe networks.
EIC Transition as a Catalyst for Innovation
The EIC Transition programme plays a critical role in supporting this development phase. It enables Celare to systematically mature its technology, validate system performance under realistic conditions, and prepare for subsequent commercialisation steps.
Beyond funding, the programme provides access to Business Acceleration Services, including coaching, mentoring, and connections to potential partners and investors. These services strengthen Celare’s position as it progresses towards market readiness and future scale-up.
EIC Transition is specifically designed to transform promising research results into innovation with tangible impact. In the case of FALQON, it supports the advancement of a technology that addresses a growing global need for secure communication in the post-quantum era.
Supporting a Strong Proposal
We supported Celare throughout the proposal development process, helping to structure a compelling case for both technological excellence and market relevance. This included clearly articulating the innovation pathway, positioning the solution within the competitive landscape, and aligning the project with European priorities in cybersecurity and quantum technologies.
The successful outcome highlights the strength of the underlying technology as well as the importance of a well-structured transition strategy. We are proud to have contributed to this achievement and to support Celare in advancing quantum-secure communications from research to real-world application.
