The EU Funding Was Crucial For the Project
Aquafarm Equipment AS, the world's leading designer and producer of floating closed fish cage systems, aims to solve some of the biggest challenges faced by modern aquaculture industry.
They have developed a cost-effective, semi-closed fish cage that prevents the escape of fish. The project is called "Neptune". It drastically reduces the risk of salmon lice and the release of organic nutrients and waste into the surrounding environment.
The Neptune project was granted by the Horizon 2020, SME Instrument Phase 1 and 2, and received 50,000 EUR and EUR 1,880,812 respectively. With the funding, Aquafarm Equipment has developed the project and carried out full-scale tests and fine-tuned their facilities. Next step is the fully-integrated concept to produce both brood fish and market-ready fish.
"From the very beginning, Nordic Innovators has proven their expert knowledge in working with our SME Instrument Phase 1 and Phase 2 grant proposals. The phase 1 grant was strategically important for the further up-scaled piloting and market breakthrough of our novel NEPTUN system. The Nordic Innovators the team is professional and proactive and always deliver timely and high-quality contributions at both technical and commercial level."
Arne Henry Nilsen, Project Manager at Aquafarm Equipment AS
